New Delhi: Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United will take on Leeds United in their first pre-season match of the season as they look to begin on a fresh note after a dismal campaign in the Premier League last season. United finished a disappointing 15th in the Premier League in the 2024-25 season, in what was one of their worst campaigns in recent times.
While Manchester United will be looking to keep their forgettable season behind them, Leeds, who earned promotion to the Premier League after clinching the Championship 2024-25 title, will be looking to get into the rhythm ahead of the new season. Leeds pipped Burnley to the Championship title last season based on goal difference after both teams finished on 100 points each.
United have bolstered their attack significantly ahead of the new season with the additions of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolves and the impending arrival of Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford. While Cunha has already been training with the rest of the United squad, having signed for the club immediately after the end of last season, Mbeumo is yet to undergo his medical and link up with the squad.
Cunha is likely to make his United debut in their friendly against Leeds on Saturday and will be looking to get off to a strong start for his new club. United also have the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot, Manuel Ugarte and Harry Maguire among others available for the clash. Young left-back Diego Leon, who arrived from Paraguayan club Cerro Porteno, is also expected to make his debut in the game.
Manchester United will be without the services of goalkeeper Andre Onana for the Leeds game as the Cameroon shot-stopper has picked up a hamstring injury, which will keep him out for at least a month. In his absence, the second-choice keeper Altay Bayindir is expected to guard the nets for United. United will also miss striker Joshua Zirkzee, who is recovering from a minor issue.
