Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant was injured during the Manchester Test match played between India and England in July 2025. This star of Team India had a ball in Pant’s right leg on the very first day of the match, due to which he was injured and had to leave the field. Then there was a lot of discussion on whether in cricket, the rules of substation should be started like football in the match too, so that the injured players could be replaced. Now this will soon be seen happening because the trial of rules related to injury in Australia is going to start.
Cricket Australia (CA) is going to launch the Injury Substitute Rules in the new season of its domestic first class tournament Sheffield Shield. From October 4, Australia’s 6 team tournaments will start and with this, this new rule will be tried. This new rule will be different from the pre -existing Convention Substitute Rules, under which there is a provision to replace the player if there is a head injury.
An opportunity will be available if the first 2 days injured
Under these new rules of CA, the team will get permission to change the injured player in the first 2 days during any match. There is no restriction on injury and all kinds of injuries have been included in it. Not only the injury, but even if a player falls ill, he can be replaced.
However, all this will be applicable only till the end of the second day’s game. Players who get injured on the third and fourth day will not be allowed to replace. At the same time, the player who is replaced due to injury will remain away from the cricket ground for the next 12 days.
Another team will also be able to replace
It has been clarified in the rule that only the same type of player can be included in the team instead of the injured player. That is, only the batsman can be selected in exchange for a batsman and only fast bowler instead of fast bowler. Not only this, the most special thing in this rule is also an opportunity for the opposing team.
According to this, if a team replaces an injured player, then the other team can also do ‘Tactical Substitution’ in return. That is, the other team will also be allowed to change a player, but a big screw in it is that the role of the role that has been injured, the other team will also be able to change the same type of player.
