The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) on Friday included 9 carat gold in the list of compulsory hallmarking categories. The new rule came into effect from this July. Hallmark confirms the purity of gold. After the new announcement, it will be necessary to give hallmarks on 9 carat jewelery. Till now, hallmarks were available only on jewelery up to 24K, 23K, 22k, 20k, 18K and 14K.
The All India Gem and Jewelery Domestic Council told X that now all jewelers and hallmarking centers will have to follow the new rules of BIS. According to the new rule, 9 carat gold (375 PPT) has now come under compulsory hallmarking. Earlier it was not necessary to have 9 carat gold, but now it would be necessary to hallmark it to customers to give correct information about the purity of gold.
It will be easy to buy gold jewelry
Suvankar Sen, MD and CEO of Senco Gold Limited, said that 9 carat gold hallmarking is a good step of the government. This will make gold jewelry cheap and easy to buy. Especially when the prices of gold are very high. Modern and smart designs can be easily made in 9 carats and companies can innovate in new design and style. This can also increase exports in the coming time. Some definitions and rules have also been changed in the new BIS standard.
These rules are not necessary for gold watches
This rule will not be necessary for gold watches and pages. According to this rule, the gold coin will be believed to be made from 24k pure gold, which should be made only a government mint or refinery and which has no value like any money. The hallmarking under the BIS Act 2016 confirms how much is the amount of precious metal in jewelery and utensils.
