India’s Test tour of England in 2025 was Shubman Gill’s most defining assignment after taking over the reins of the Test team. Gill shattered multiple records in the five-match Test series against England, plundering 754 runs across 10 innings at a phenomenal average of 75.40.
Gill made a stunning statement by becoming the first batter in the history of Test cricket to score four centuries in a debut series as captain. He surpassed the likes of Don Bradman, Steve Smith, Virat Kohli, Greg Chappell, and Warwick Armstrong, who scored three centuries in their respective debut Test series.
Additionally, Shubman Gill holds the record for the most runs by an Indian captain in a debut Test series, eclipsing Virat Kohli’s 692 runs during India’s tour of Australia, while also recording the second-highest run tally by any captain in a single series in Test cricket history, trailing only Sir Don Bradman’s 810 runs.
