Kolkata: There seems to be a big split in the group of rebel leaders of Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal. It is reported that more than 12 rebel MLAs who had gone with Ritabrata Banerjee, openly angry with Mamata Banerjee’s leadership, are now considering changing their decision. According to a report in ‘The Telegraph’, these MLAs are very worried about their political future.
These MLAs feel that it will not be beneficial for them to develop enmity with Mamata. Therefore, he is thinking of leaving the rebel camp and coming back with Mamata Banerjee. They fear that they will be politically isolated due to the rebellion. He believes that it is not easy to face Mamata Banerjee’s support base and her dominance in the party. He also feels that if he leaves the party, it will be difficult to win in the coming elections. They may have to face opposition from the very people who voted them to victory – this fear is forcing them to think again.
On the other hand, news coming from Delhi shows that all is not well in Mamta camp too. According to reports, around 20 Trinamool MPs, including Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, are in talks with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). It is being said that he can change sides and join BJP at any time. If this happens, it will be a big blow for Trinamool, because TMC has the highest number of MPs in the opposition camp in Parliament after Congress.
