Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff revisited one of his early career milestones on Monday as his 1984 action drama Andar Baahar, co-starring Anil Kapoor, completed 42 years.
To mark the anniversary, Jackie shared a montage of stills from the film on social media. The throwback included scenes featuring his character, Inspector Ravi Khanna, moments with Anil Kapoor and glimpses of the action-packed narrative.
He captioned the post, “#Celebrating42YearsOfAndarBaahar”.
Released on September 7, 1984, Andar Baahar marked the first on-screen collaboration between Jackie Shroff and Anil Kapoor. Their subsequent work together established them as one of the notable actor pairings of Hindi cinema during the 1980s and 1990s.
Directed by Raj N. Sippy and produced by Romu N. Sippy under the Uttam Chitra banner, the film featured Moon Moon Sen, Kim, Danny Denzongpa, Gulshan Grover, Parikshit Sahni, Beena Banerjee, Huma Khan, Viju Khote, Sulochana Latkar and Murad in pivotal roles.
Jackie played Inspector Ravi Khanna, while Anil Kapoor portrayed Raja and Danny Denzongpa essayed the antagonist Shamsher Singh ‘Shera’.
The film was reportedly adapted from the 1982 Hollywood action thriller 48 Hrs. Its story follows Inspector Ravi, who seeks the help of Raja, a criminal and former associate of Shera, to track down the gangster after he escapes from prison.
The film’s music was composed by R. D. Burman, with lyrics by Gulshan Bawra. Its soundtrack included songs such as ‘Andar Baahar Baahar Andar’, ‘Humko To Yaari Se Matlab Hai’, ‘Mausam Bada Suhana Hai’, ‘Meri Aankhon Mein Zara Jhanko To’ and ‘Kaise Kehte Hain’.
Suresh Wadkar, Shailendra Singh and Asha Bhosle were among the playback singers associated with the soundtrack.
Andar Baahar released around the same period as B.R. Chopra’s Aaj Ki Awaaz, with the two films competing at the box office.
