Jammu and Kashmir needs peace, security and progress more than elections,’ BJP MP from Ladakh Jamyang Namgyal said on Tuesday during the winter session. Namgyal made a strong case for continuation of status quo under the Union Territory administration. In fact, the opposition parties in the House were demanding from the Center to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and fix a time limit for holding assembly elections there, in response to which Namgyal replied to the opposition parties.
All opposition parties along with TMC MP Saugata Roy made this demand during the discussion on two bills on the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in the Lok Sabha on the second day of the winter session. During this period there was a fierce debate in the House. Hitting back at the opposition parties, Namgyal said that he asks former Chief Minister Farooq, who was present in the House, which election has taken place during his tenure in which guns and bombs were not used, which election has taken place peacefully.

‘Peace and security are more important than elections’
MP Namgyal said that if there is life then there is world. In such a situation, the Union Territory needs peace and security more than elections at this time. He said that the government cannot conduct elections by putting people’s lives at risk. No elections can be held in Jammu and Kashmir at the cost of national security or public safety. During this, he targeted the previous governments and said that earlier people were afraid of going to Kashmir, they were in danger of their lives. Especially in the South Kashmir region which used to be the center of extremism and terrorism. But now there is peace there. Now guns have been replaced by film shooting. People now roam around without fear.
