Challenge of population growth and resolution of Maheshwari society
Maheshwari Samaj is a prestigious Vaishya community of Rajasthan who is known for its important role in business, education and social service. However, in recent years, there has been a decrease in population growth rate in this society. According to a recent United Nations report, India’s total population is expected to reach 1.46 billion in 2025 but the fertility rate has fallen to 1.9 which is below the replacement level (2.1). This situation is a matter of concern not only for Maheshwari society but also for many other communities.
The Maheshwari society has started this unique initiative to encourage a third child to face this challenge and maintain its community existence. The FD of ₹ 50,000 given under this scheme will serve as an financial assistance for the future of the child and motivate families to have a third child.
Effect of initiative and expectations of future
At the ceremony held in Bhilwara, seven families got the benefit of this scheme which has given a positive message in the society. This initiative not only provides financial assistance but also increases social awareness about the importance of population growth. Anil Bangar said that efforts will be made to reach this scheme to every section of the society so that more and more families can take advantage of it.
This initiative has also become a topic of discussion on social media where some people are calling it an inspirational step for population growth while some are looking at it in the perspective of social and economic pressures. However, this unique initiative of Maheshwari society is an important step towards facing the demographic challenges of its community.
