A big news related to Aadhaar card has come out. UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) has canceled (closed) of around 1 crore 17 lakh Aadhaar numbers. This step has been taken because in many cases it was seen that the Aadhaar card of the dead was being misused.

To prevent this misuse, UIDAI has started closing such Aadhaar numbers. According to media reports, these 12 -digit Aadhaar numbers have been completely deactivated so that there is no fraud.

Statistics collected from 24 states

UIDAI gathered statistics of death of 1.55 crore people from 24 states and union territories of the country. These figures were received through the Civil Registration System (CRS). When these figures were investigated, it was found that 1.17 crore of these Aadhaar numbers are no longer necessary, so they were closed.

Where the CRS is not working completely right now, UIDAI has also got information about about 6.7 lakh deaths from there. Those Aadhaar numbers will also be canceled soon.

This step of UIDAI is taken to keep the Aadhaar card safe and reliable, so that the identity of any dead person can be misused.
