Historic win! Rohit, Bhurtel shine as Nepal stun West Indies in first T20I

New Delhi: Nepal defeated West Indies by 19 runs for the first time ever in T20Is at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Saturday, September 27. This is a historic day in Nepal cricket, as this was their first win against a full member side.

West Indies won the toss and invited the hosts to bat first. The visitors quickly removed Nepal’s opener in the powerplay, but the skipper, Rohit Paudel, and Kushal Malla handled the innings by managing a partnership of 58 runs.

Nepal’s skipper was dismissed for 38 runs, and he was also the highest scorer for his side. With wickets falling at regular intervals, West Indies concluded Nepal’s score at 148/8 in 20 overs.

West Indies were the clear favourite to win the game, as the side featured experienced Kyle Mayers, Keacy Carty, Amir Jangoo, Jason Holder, Fabian Allen, and Akeal Hosein in their batting department.

But the hosts have other plans, as Mayers was run out in the second over, and the Nepal bowlers were all over the Caribbean in the chase. Ackeem Auguste was looking dangerous as he smashed two sixes in his first six balls, but Nandan Yadav removed him in the power play to shift the momentum to his side.

Nepal held their nerves brilliantly and closed out the game against the likes of Holder, Akeal, and Fabian in the end.
