New Delhi: Igor Thiago netted twice and Caoimhin Kelleher saved a second-half penalty from Bruno Fernandes as Brentford beat Manchester United 3-1 at home.
Substitute Mathias Jensen also scored a stunner in the fifth minute of stoppage time to make sure the Bees secure all three points. Thiago scored a sensational opening goal after eight minutes before quickly netting his second with a strike from close range.
The Red Devils reduced the deficit through Benjamin Sesko’s first goal for Manchester United, and the visitors had a chance to share the points after half-time, when Bryan Mbeumo was pulled back inside the box by James Collins, but Kelleher made a brilliant save to deny Fernandes’ spot-kick. Jensen then struck on the break shortly after coming off the bench.
Brentford is now placed at the 11th position in the Premier League table, level on seven points with United but two places above them due to a better goal difference.
