10-year-old girl sexually assaulted near Chennai; Public outrage erupts over leaked CCTV footage

Chennai: A horrifying incident of sexual assault against a minor has shaken the Arambakkam community after a 10-year-old girl was abducted and sexually harassed last Saturday (July 12). The survivor was walking to her grandmother’s house near the railway station when an unidentified man, believed to be around 25 years old, allegedly stalked and attacked her. Eyewitness accounts suggest the perpetrator forcibly covered the child’s mouth before dragging her to a nearby thicket locally called “manthottam,” where the sexual assault occurred.

After committing the crime, the assailant reportedly fled the scene, leaving the traumatized victim to find her way to safety. The girl’s family immediately sought medical attention and filed a formal complaint at Arambakkam Police Station, where authorities have registered a case under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Police have been analysing CCTV footage from the railway station and surrounding areas for the past five days in an urgent effort to identify and apprehend the suspect.

Meanwhile, the survivor continues to receive medical treatment and psychological support. The case has taken a disturbing turn with the unauthorized circulation of CCTV footage purportedly related to the incident, sparking widespread public outrage and demands for justice.
