Karthi Says ‘Sardar 2’ Will Make Audiences Rethink the Impact of Health and Hygiene

Actor Karthi believes his upcoming spy thriller ‘Sardar 2’ will leave audiences thinking differently about an issue directly linked to their health and wellbeing.

Speaking at the audio and trailer launch of the P S Mithran-directed film, Karthi said the story addresses a serious health-related concern that viewers may find difficult to ignore, even after leaving the theatre.

“You might have continued the practice of drinking water from plastic water bottles, but after watching this film, you won’t be able to ignore the point it looks to make. That is because we’re spoken about a truth that pertains to your health and that issue is bound to leave you shaken,” he said.

The film is the sequel to ‘Sardar’, in which Mithran explored the commercialisation of water. The earlier film emerged as a major blockbuster. With ‘Sardar 2’, the filmmaker has shifted the focus towards issues surrounding health and hygiene.

Karthi praised Mithran’s commitment to the subject and expressed hope that the film reaches a wide audience. He also said viewers are ready to watch films that engage with such subjects.

The trailer launch was attended by several celebrities, including Karthi’s elder brother and actor Suriya, who extended his wishes to the team.

‘Sardar 2’ is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on September 10, 2026. The production team completed the film’s shooting in Bangkok in June 2025. Actress Malavika Mohanan had earlier indicated during a fan question-and-answer session that she would complete her work on the film in June 2025.

George Williams is the cinematographer, while Sam C S has composed the music. Vijay Velukutty is the editor, and the art direction is handled by MSP Madhavan and B. Sekar.

The film is written by Rathna Kumar, Aashameera Aiyappan and Vignesh Muniyand. Action sequences have been choreographed by Dhilip Subbarayan and Chethan D’Souza.
