Harry Kane nets 100th Bayern goal, breaks Ronaldo and Haaland’s record

New Delhi: Harry Kane continues to smash records in Germany. The Bayern Munich striker scored twice in his side’s 3-1 win over Werder Bremen on Friday to reach 100 goals for the club in just 104 matches. With this milestone he became the fastest player to achieve the feat in Europe’s top five leagues.

The England captain converted a penalty right before half-time for his first goal of the night, before pouncing on a rebound in the 65th minute to complete his brace and seal yet another milestone. By doing so, he moved past Cristiano Ronaldo and Erling Haaland, who both needed 105 games to reach 100 goals with Real Madrid and Manchester City respectively.

Bayern had earlier taken the lead through Jonathan Tah’s flicked effort that deflected in off Luis Diaz while Konrad Laimer added a late fourth to wrap up the victory. For Kane, though, the focus was all on the century mark and the fact he got there quicker than two of the game’s most ruthless finishers.

Records breaking machine

This wasn’t Kane’s first brush with history in a Bayern shirt. Just last week, he hit a hat-trick in a 4-1 win over Hoffenheim, a performance that also saw him set two Bundesliga records. He became the fastest player to 70 goals in the competition, reaching the tally in only 67 games, and he had earlier claimed the record for most goals in 50 Bundesliga appearances with 54 strikes.

On Friday night, he added another entry to the record books by becoming the first player in Bundesliga history to convert his first 18 penalties, a flawless streak that underlines his composure from the spot. Few strikers combine such consistency with the ability to produce in big games and Kane has done both since his move from Tottenham in 2023.

Kane’s output this season shows no signs of slowing as he has already netted 15 goals in eight matches across all competitions including two hat-tricks in the league. Bayern remain unbeaten at the top of the Bundesliga under new boss Vincent Kompany, who praised his star forward’s work ethic as much as his goals.

“It was another great moment for Harry Kane,” Kompany said after the match. “The way he achieved this record and still puts in so much work for the team, I think that shows the hunger and desire he has.”

That blend of talent and effort endeared Kane to Bayern fans and impressed even German pundits who once doubted whether he could replicate his Premier League success abroad. Former players and analysts have gone as far as to suggest he is already ahead of Robert Lewandowski in terms of impact.

No plans for Premier League return

Speculation over a Premier League comeback will always follow Kane, especially with talk of a release clause in his contract. But the striker, who has two years left on his deal with Bayern was clear when asked after the Bremen game. “No, not at the moment. I’m really happy here. I have two years left on my contract. I’m enjoying every moment,” he said.

For now, Kane looks settled in Munich and fully focused on leading Bayern to more silverware. With his scoring rate showing no signs of dipping, the only real question is how many more records he will break before his time in Germany is over.
