Fasting story of mother Skandmata

This story is from the time when there was a demon named Tarakasura on earth. Tarakasura pleased Brahma ji with his harsh penance, because of which Brahma himself had to appear in front of him. After this, Brahma ji asked him to ask for a boon, then Tarakasura asked for a boon of immortality. Brahma ji explained, Tarakasura, who was born, his death is certain. No one can be immortal in this world. Hearing this, Tarakasura was a bit disappointed, but he was very clever. He thought that Lord Shiva will never marry nor will he have any children. As soon as this idea came to mind, he asked Brahma ji another boon. He said, Lord, give me the boon that I die only in the hands of Lord Shiva’s son.

Brahma ji gave this boon to him by saying ‘Aastastu’. Tarakasura’s ego increased further as soon as he received a boon. He understood that no one could kill him now. He started creating outcry in all three worlds. His atrocities on gods, sages and humans were increasing. Devraj Indra was banished from Swargaloka and Tarakasura declared himself the lord of the three worlds.

Priced by the terror of Tarakasura, all the gods went to Lord Vishnu and pleaded for help from him. Lord Vishnu told him that only the son of Lord Shiva can kill Tarakasura, so the only solution for this is that Lord Shiva marries and a son should be born here. The gods together prayed to Lord Shiva, who was absorbed in deep penance at that time. On hearing the prayers of the gods and seeing the plight of the world, Lord Shiva decided to marry Goddess Parvati. After this, Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati were married. A very stunning child was born here, named Karthikeya. He is also known as Skanda Kumar.

Mother Parvati gave her son knowledge of the herself and weapons. He prepared her to fight with Tarakasura in every way. Karthikeya became a powerful and skilled warrior in a very short time. When Karthikeya grew up, he was entrusted with the responsibility of killing Tarakasura. The gods made him their commander. Karthikeya killed Tarakasura with his mother’s education and his might. Thus, he freed the three worlds from his atrocities.

Being the mother of Lord Kartikeya, this form of Goddess Parvati was called Skandmata. Mother Skandmata always loots Mamta like her son on her devotees. The child is always seated in his lap, Kartikeya, who symbolizes that the mother protects her devotees every moment. This story teaches us how much power is there in motherhood. Worshiping mother Skandamata brings child happiness. Also, she blesses her devotees of knowledge, intelligence and consciousness. It is believed that by worshiping the mother Skandamata with the true heart, devotees attain salvation and they cross from Bhavsagar.
