The Sher-e-Punjab T20 League 2026 begins on August 30 at Mohali’s IS Bindra Stadium. The opener pits Amritsar Soormas against Mohali Kings. The league, featuring stars like Shubman Gill, aims to nurture young talent from across the state.
More than just a battle for the trophy, the league aims to provide Punjab’s emerging cricketers with a bigger platform to compete, learn and showcase their talent. Organised by the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) and exclusively managed by Servotech Sports and Entertainment, with DNA as the Technical Partner, the league will celebrate Punjab’s strong cricketing culture while creating a pathway for the next generation.
Star-Studded Opening and High Hopes from PCA
Adding to the excitement, popular Punjabi singer Mankirt Aulakh will perform at the opening ceremony, bringing a touch of Punjab’s music and entertainment to the grand start of the tournament. PCA Secretary Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer said, “We are delighted to have Mankirt Aulakh perform at the opening ceremony of the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League. It will be a special way to celebrate the beginning of a new chapter in Punjab cricket. We are looking forward to welcoming the fans to the stadium and making the opening a memorable one.”

Captains on Nurturing Future Talent
As the league prepares to get underway, the six franchise captains have also shared their thoughts on what the tournament means for Punjab cricket and the opportunities it can create for young players.
Shubman Gill (Fazilka Falcons)
India and Fazilka Falcons captain Shubman Gill said,”The start of the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League is a very special moment for Punjab cricket. The state has always had a strong cricketing culture, and this league gives us an opportunity to build on that legacy. It brings experienced players and young talent together and gives Punjab’s cricketers a platform to perform at a higher level.”
Abhishek Sharma (Amritsar Soormas)
Amritsar Soormas captain Abhishek Sharma added, “Punjab has talent in every corner of the state. The Sher-E-Punjab T20 League will give the players a proper platform to compete, perform and get noticed. For many youngsters, this could be the first big step towards a professional cricket career.”
Arshdeep Singh (Ludhiana Lions)
Ludhiana Lions captain Arshdeep Singh highlighted the value of learning from experienced players, saying, “One of the biggest strengths of this league is the presence of experienced players alongside youngsters. Young cricketers will get to share the dressing room with established names, understand how they prepare and learn how to handle pressure. That kind of experience can make a big difference in their development.”
Prabhsimran Singh (Jalandhar Warriors)
Jalandhar Warriors skipper Prabhsimran Singh believes the league can help connect grassroots cricket with the professional level. “The real strength of Punjab cricket lies at the grassroots level. There are talented players from small towns, villages and districts who have the ability to go far. The Sher-e-Punjab T20 League creates a bridge between grassroots cricket and the higher level, giving these players an opportunity to prove themselves on a bigger stage,” said Prabhsimran.
Ramandeep Singh (Mohali Kings)
Mohali Kings captain Ramandeep Singh believes the league could open important doors for emerging players. “This league can become an important pathway for Punjab’s young cricketers. If a player performs consistently, his performances can attract the attention of IPL franchises and selectors. The opportunity to play in a competitive T20 league and perform in front of a wider audience can open doors that may otherwise take much longer to open,” noted Ramandeep.
Uday Saharan (Bathinda Royals)
Bathinda Royals captain Uday Saharan feels the league is about building a stronger future for Punjab cricket. “The Sher-E-Punjab T20 League is not just about winning a trophy; it is about building the future of Punjab cricket. If we can give young players regular opportunities, quality competition and the right environment to learn, we can create many more cricketers who will go on to represent Punjab, play in the IPL and hopefully represent India in the future,” said Saharan.
With six teams, 27 matches and some of Punjab’s finest cricketing talent ready to take centre stage, the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League promises to be a celebration of the state’s passion for the game. (ANI)
