Asia Cup 2025: Pakistan Coach Mike Hesson Fires Bold Challenge To India Ahead Of Final, ‘Only Result On Sept 28 Will Matter’

India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 Final: Despite suffering back-to-back thrashings at the hands of India in the Asia Cup 2025, Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson remains unwavering in his confidence that past results hold little importance, with his team’s sight firmly set on the ultimate prize.

With the Asia Cup final on the horizon, Hesson believes that only the outcome of the summit clash will truly matter. Notably, the arch-rivals prepare to clash in an Asia Cup final for the first time in 41 years.

India’s preeminence over Pakistan was undeniable in their meetings, as the Suryakumar Yadav-led side registered convincing triumphs in both the group league and Super 4 stages.

In the tournament, India secured their first win by seven wickets in the group league match, and then reinforced their dominance with a six-wicket victory in the Super 4s.

“We know that we played on the 14th. We played on the 21st. But really, the only match that really counts is the one at the end. And that will be our focus. Trying to play our best game when it counts,” Hesson replied to a query about his message to his players ahead of Sunday’s final after they comfortably disposed of a unassuming challenge from Bangladesh by 11 runs here on Thursday.

Spanning over four decades, the Asia Cup has a rich history, but the battles between traditional rivals India and Pakistan have stood out the most.

Hesson firmly believes that his team has gained the right to contest in the Asia Cup final, stating that they “deserved the opportunity.”

“So now it’s up to us to make the most of it. And I think all the games that have happened up to this point now have been around trying to get yourself in a position to win the trophy. And that’s what we’ve been talking about the whole time,” he added.
