England cricketer Ollie Robinson scripted history as he was the pick of the bowlers for the home team as they ran through the Pakistan batting unit during the second day of the second Test match against Pakistan at the Lord’s Cricket Ground on Friday (August 28).
The star pacer was the pick of the bowlers as he continued his incredible run of form.
Robinson took a four-wicket haul while bowling 13 overs and giving away just 11 runs at an economy of 0.84. The right-arm picked the wickets of top-scorer Azan Awais as well as Saud Shakeel, Mohammad Rizwan, and Khurram Shehzad.

Robinson produced the most economical four-wicket haul by a pacer in the 142-year-old history of the Lord’s Cricket Ground. Among spinners, only England’s Phil Edmonds (0.75) has taken a more economical four-for than Robinson at Lord’s. He also achieved the feat against Pakistan in 1978 with a stunning spell of 4-6. This is also the only instance of a bowler (pacer or spinner) taking four wickets in an innings at Lord’s while conceding fewer runs than the England quick.

Meanwhile, Robinson’s spell is the second-most economical four-fer against Pakistan in Test cricket history, only behind Australia’s Max Walker, who took 6-15 in 16 overs at an economy of 0.7 against the Asian side at the Sydney Cricket Ground in 1973. The tally of 11 runs is the joint third least by a quick bowler (joint fourth least by a bowler of any type) against Pakistan while a pace bowler took four or more wickets in an innings.
Overall in Test cricket history, Robinson bowled the 14th most economical four-wicket haul by a pace bowler. Among bowlers of all types, it is the 35th most economical.
Ollie Robinson’s Incredible Comeback
Robinson has made an incredible comeback to the England team after being out of action for two years. Before the Lord’s Test against New Zealand in June, he last played for the Three Lions in the longest format in February 2024 against India.
Since returning, he has played three games and taken 19 wickets (7 vs New Zealand at Lord’s, 8 vs. Pakistan vs Leeds, 4 vs Pakistan at Lord’s) in three matches (five innings) at a remarkable average of 8.84.
Among bowlers to take more than 10 wickets in an English season, Robinson’s average is the best by a pacer since 1890.
