Social media is witnessing a wave of posts from Indians who say their US tourist visa applications are being turned down despite strong professional backgrounds and financial stability. Several users have shared their experiences online, often pointing out how their applications were turned down with little or no explanation.
One such case came to light in a video posted by Instagram user and vlogger Jay, who was seen speaking with a man about his friend’s visa rejection. According to the man, his friend had applied for a US tourist visa but was denied after a surprising exchange at the embassy.

The applicant reportedly mentioned during the interview that he was born in Delhi and had never travelled to any other part of India. The embassy officer, in response, told him to explore his own country before visiting the United States. “You go and see your country first. Then, come to me and I’ll give you the visa to USA,” the official said. This unusual reasoning behind the rejection sparked disbelief and curiosity online.
The clip quickly spread across social media, attracting strong reactions. Some viewers agreed with the advice, pointing out India’s own natural beauty and cultural richness. One user commented, “There are so many beautiful places in India — Uttarakhand, Himachal, the mountains, Kerala, Leh Ladakh, Udaipur, Jaipur, Jaisalmer and many more.”
However, others criticised the reasoning, calling it unfair and arbitrary. A social media user remarked, “I agree with restricting immigration to those who have the skills required to fill the void. I don’t agree with the ‘see your country before you see mine’ ideal. It’s cringey to a degree and restricts overall progress.”
Yet another added, “The answer is right out of a movie.”
