Ahluwalia said that Kaur was placed in the detention center of Bakersfield and then taken to Los Angeles. From there he was seated on the plane for Georgia and then to New Delhi. His family asked the officer to be given a chance to meet relatives, but did not get permission.

Her asylum application was rejected in 2012, but even after this she continued to report to the ICE in San Francisco every six months for the last 13 years.
