New Delhi: Team India will take on England in the first ODI at The Rose Bowl in Southampton on Wednesday, July 16. The three-match ODI series is crucial for the team leading into the World Cup, which is just two months away.
With only three matches left against Australia at home in September, just before the mega event, this series is pretty much the last opportunity for the team management to decide their combinations.
Pratika Rawal is likely to be included in the ODI playing XI after not being part of the T20I set-up. She had a brilliant opening partnership with Smriti Mandhana, scoring 968 runs in 11 matches with four 100-run stands.
The Indian head coach, Amol Muzumdar said that Shafali is still in the plans for the ODI World Cup, after her brilliant performance in the T20I series. But, Pratika have a chance to prove herself in the ODI series.
‘Everything is quite settled and everybody knows their roles’: Harmanpreet Kaur
Harmanpreet Kaur said in the pre-series press conference that everything is quite settled, and everyone knows their roles in the team. She further added that there is a lot more clarity in the squad leading into the World Cup compared to the previous tournaments.
“After a long time, it’s a (good) headache that everyone is doing well, and we are getting an option to choose the best team. Before this, we didn’t have so many options. The credit goes to Pratika and Shafali, the kind of performances they are coming up with. Harleen, too, whenever she has gotten the opportunity, has shown that she can be good for the team and bat responsibly,” said Harmanpreet.
