Actress Helly Shah is stepping into a new territory with her upcoming streaming series ‘Chumbak’, which marks her first full-fledged comedy role. The actress said she was initially nervous about taking on the genre but ultimately found the experience deeply rewarding.
Speaking at the trailer launch of the series in Mumbai on Wednesday, Helly said she was unsure whether she would be able to pull off comedy when she first joined the project.
“Comedy is completely new. This is my first time doing comedy. I have never done comedy before. And I was honestly so nervous, so unsure if I will be able to pull it off or not,” she said.
Helly credited director Atish for having faith in her abilities and encouraging her to explore the comic side of her acting.
“I personally feel it’s Atish sir’s trust and belief in me that I can do this. And I am just so, so glad that he could see that spark of twinkle in me because I honestly went on the set after surrendering,” she said.
Although Helly previously appeared in the comedy-drama streaming series ‘Gullak’, her character in the show was largely rooted in drama. ‘Chumbak’, therefore, represents a more direct departure into comedy for the actress.
She said the experience made her realise that she could explore facets of her acting that she had not previously considered.
“I didn’t know how it will be, what I will do. But he has helped me explore a part of myself as an actor. Because I didn’t know that I could do comedy. I didn’t know that something like this could come out of me,” Helly said.
The actress also became emotional while recalling the faith the director placed in her, saying she had expressed her gratitude to him on the final day of filming.
“I think I shiver because this is something so close to my heart. And I always get emotional that I have done something new. And he has trusted me with all his heart,” she added.
