New Delhi, August 26: East Delhi Riders signed off their Delhi Premier League (DPL 2026) campaign on a winning note, defeating Purani Dilli 6 by 10 runs in a low-scoring encounter at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Batting first, East Delhi Riders posted 118/6 from their allotted 10 overs, with Suryansh Raina providing the early impetus. The opener struck a brisk 42 off 19 deliveries, while Sujal Singh chipped in with a quick 14 off six balls to help the Riders finish strongly.
Digvesh Rathi was the pick of the East Delhi bowling attack, delivering two economical overs for just nine runs while claiming two wickets. His spell played a crucial role in restricting Purani Dilli 6 during the chase.
Purani Dilli 6 made a positive start, with Aryan Gaur and Samarth Seth putting together 30 runs in the opening two overs. Simarjeet Singh then broke the partnership when Seth chopped one onto his stumps.
Anuj Rawat joined Gaur and added 21 runs with the opener before being dismissed for 15 off nine balls. Gaur continued to anchor the chase, keeping Purani Dilli 6 in contention.
With 40 runs required from the final three overs, Pankaj Jaswal briefly raised hopes by hitting a six, only to fall off the following delivery while attempting another big shot.
The pressure intensified as Purani Dilli 6 needed 26 runs from the final two overs. Simarjeet bowled a superb penultimate over, conceding just five runs and leaving the opposition with 21 to get from the final over.
Purani Dilli 6 could manage only 108/6 in their 10 overs, handing East Delhi Riders a 10-run victory. The match was also the final DPL fixture at the Arun Jaitley Stadium before the venue hosts international fixtures involving India and Afghanistan next year.
Despite the loss, Purani Dilli 6 finished third in the league standings and booked their place in the playoffs. They will take on Outer Delhi Warriors in the Eliminator, with a spot in the next stage on the line.
