According to religious and mythological beliefs, Kedarnath Dham is considered the 11th among the twelve Jyotirlingas. A large number of Shiva devotees reach here to have darshan and worship of their deity.

These days the doors of Kedarnath Dham are open. Devotees are seeing and worshiping Mahadev here. The story of Kedarnath is very interesting. It is believed that Pandavas had built the ancient temple of Kedareshwar Jyotirlinga.

According to the story…

According to the popular story about Kedarnath Dham, after the war of Mahabharata, Pandavas were burning in the fire of repentance. Pandavas wanted to get freedom from the sin of killing their brothers. For this he started worshiping Mahadev. Because he knew that Mahadev’s blessings were necessary to get rid of this sin, but Mahadev was not happy with the devotion of Pandavas. Therefore he went to Kedarnath.

Mahadev took the form of a buffalo

However, Pandavas also reached Kedarnath for his darshan. After this, Lord Shiva took the form of a buffalo and sat among other animals. So that Pandavas cannot recognize them. Then, in search of Shiva, Bhimsen expanded his body and spread his legs on two mountains. After which all the animals came out from under that mountain, but the one buffalo present there did not do so.

The buffalo’s back is transformed into the form of Shiva.

After this, Bhima pounced towards the buffalo with full force, but it started sinking into the ground. Then Bhima caught hold of his back. On this, Mahadev was pleased with the willpower and devotion of the Pandavas and appeared to them and freed them from the sin of killing their brothers. There is a religious belief that from that time the buffalo’s back started being considered as the form of Shiva and worship started in Kedarnath.
