Superstar Rajinikanth, who was working on the second schedule of Nelson Dilipkumar’s highly anticipated Jailer 2 in Palakkad and Coimbatore, returned to Chennai on Wednesday.
Addressing the film’s developments, Rajinikanth also spoke about the film’s release date. As per several media portals, Rajinikanth has revealed that Jailer 2 will release on June 12, 2026. However, this isn’t the case.

In an exclusive chat with Zoom, a source close to Rajinikanth’s team said the superstar didn’t make any claim about the film’s release date. The source said “All he said was June 2026…when he was asked about the release date, the microphone seemed to have moved away, it resulted in a partially muted answer. Just when Rajinikanth said June…(he said June 2026) the audio was cut off”. This made social media users believe that he said June 12.
Rajinikanth dropped a similar update before he travelled for the shoot about a few days ago Talking to the press at the airport, Rajinikanth was asked about the film’s release date and the film’s progress. He said “I’ve come to Kerala for the shoot of Jailer 2 which is for six days. The film will release after June, next year.”
About Jailer 2
A sequel to the 2023 blockbuster film Jailer, Jailer 2 sees the return of Nelson Dilipkumar as the director. Rajinikanth will be seen reprising his role of ‘Tiger’ Muthuvel Pandian. The film will also star Ramya Krishnan, who played the role of his wife in the first film. Shivarajkumar, who made a cameo appearance in the first film, confirmed being a part of the sequel as well. It is yet to be announced if Mohanlal and Jackie Shroff, who also had powerful cameos in the film, will be back for the second instalment. Interestingly, the names like Nandamuri Balakrishna, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Vidya Balan and Mithun Chakraborty speculated to be part of the cast.
