In the voter list, the process of updation has to be filled for different needs, 6, 7 or 8.
In the midst of intensive testing of voter list in Bihar and ongoing hearing in the Supreme Court, the Election Commission has written a letter to the state election officials for the intensive testing of the voter list across the country and asked them to prepare. There is nothing new in this either. The Commission keeps doing this work regularly every year. The current noise has become important because Bihar has elections in November this year and the commission has started this process in the last week of June. For different needs in this process, form, 6, 7 or 8 will have to be filled.
The opposition alleges that people do not have many paper out of the paper commission. One of them is an important paper, the birth certificate of parents, which remains a challenge in itself. And the commission is not accepting the paper that is. It is also alleged that a large number of voters of Bihar are due to work in different parts of the country. If no specific provision is made for him, then they will be left forest by casting their votes in Bihar elections.
The Supreme Court will again hear the Bihar case again this month. Whatever decision it comes, political parties will also accept and the Election Commission of India will also be considered. Let us know this excuse, find this entire process and the answer to every question related to it.
What is Form 6, 7 and 8?
Form 6 is for those citizens who want to register a name in the voter list for the first time or have transferred to a new constituency. Citizens who have completed 18 years of age or who have recently shifted to an area, can apply through this form. In this, information about name, address, date of birth, gender etc. and necessary documents (eg age proof, residence proof, photo) have to be attached.
Form 7 is to remove the name from the voter list or to register an objection to any wrong entry. If someone has died, has moved to another area, or the list has duplicate entry, the name can be removed through Form 7.
Form 8 is for improvement or change in the information recorded in the voter list. If there is any error in the name, address, date of birth, gender, photo etc., then it can be improved through Form 8. Apart from this, if a voter changes his address within the same constituency, then this form can also be used.
In order to conduct the election process in the country smoothly, it is very important to have a fit and update of the voter list from time to time. The Election Commission has set various forms to add, remove or improve names in the voter list, of which Forms 6, 7 and 8 are prominent. From time to time, there have been changes in these forms and process, so that citizens can get more convenience and transparency.
The voter list is the official document in which the names, addresses and other details of all the eligible voters of a constituency are recorded. This list confirms the right to vote during the election. If the name of a citizen is not in the voter list, then he cannot vote, even if he has a voter ID card. Therefore, it is very important to enter the name in the voter list and to improve it from time to time.
When did the changes happen?
- In India, the Election Commission has made many significant changes in the forms and process related to the voter list from time to time. The main purpose of these changes has been to make the process simple, transparent and accessible to citizens.
- The National Voters Service Portal started in the year 2013, which made the services related to the voter list available online. This provided the facility to apply for the citizens sitting at home.
- In the year 2017-18, the Election Commission launched the Voter Helpline App, which made the form to fill the form and track the status of application. Also, the facility of digital submission of documents also started.
- In the year 2022, Form 6, 6A, 7, 8 was integrated and simplified. Now it has become possible to add, remove or improve names under the same process. This led to transparency and speed in the application process.
- Facilities like digital verification, Aadhaar linking, and electronic voter ID were introduced in the year 2023-24. Now citizens can also apply through mobile app or NVSP portal, which has made the process even easier.
Process of adding, removal and improvement in voter list
- Online applications can be made through NVSP Portal (Nvsp.in) or Voter Helpline App. Forms 6, 7, 8 can be filled. The application is submitted after uploading the required documents.
- If you are uncomfortable applying online, then offline application facility is also available. You can submit the form from the concerned Election Office or BLO by attaching, filling and attaching documents.
- The status of the application has the facility to track through the NVSP portal or mobile app.
- BLOs have been authorized for physical verification. They verify the documents and information. After verification, the name is added to the list or improved.
Keep these things in mind
- The voter list is updated every year, usually a draft is published in January.
- Citizens who have completed 18 years of age can apply.
- There is a facility of linking from Aadhaar, but it is not mandatory.
- To vote, it is necessary that the name is compulsorily recorded in the voter list.
- Give correct and clear information while applying, so that there is no problem later.
Adding, removing or improving names in the voter list is now easier and transparent than ever.
