Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel met Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi in Delhi to discuss strategy for the 2027 Punjab elections, including a proposed bus tour across the state to be led by Rahul Gandhi to strengthen the party’s outreach.
Congress Plans Bus Tour in Punjab
Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel on Monday met senior party leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi in the national capital ahead of the forthcoming 2027 assembly elections in Punjab. The meeting between Baghel, who is the Punjab Congress incharge, and Rahul Gandhi focused on the latter’s proposed Punjab visit and preparations for a special bus tour across the state.
While speaking to ANI on his meeting with the party High Command, Baghel said, “I met both Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi; the main topic was the bus journey planned for Punjab. I wanted to seek permission for the tour, specifically regarding the journey Rahul Gandhi is to undertake. They granted me time and asked me to submit a proposal outlining the schedule for the week, after which they will finalise the timing. Not this week; it is going to be a major tour. Since it will cover the entire state of Punjab, it will take some time.”
Baghel on SAD-BJP Alliance Speculation
When asked to comment on speculations regarding the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and BJP alliance, Baghel asserted that the reports of a BJP-Shiromani Akali Dal alliance surfaced “precisely because” Congress is becoming stronger. “Reports of a BJP-Shiromani Akali Dal alliance are surfacing precisely because the Congress is becoming stronger; the Congress is the reason behind it,” he added.
The senior Congress leader informed that all Punjab leaders will also participate in this bus Yatra. The proposed tour is expected to take Gandhi through different parts of Punjab, with the Congress seeking to strengthen its organisational and political outreach in the state ahead of the forthcoming 2027 assembly election.
Baghel Challenges BJP on Chhattisgarh Housing Data
Addressing the press conference, he said, “BJP members lie in writing. The Chief Minister claims that 18.5 lakh houses have been sanctioned, yet the figure cited in the Lok Sabha is 9.81 lakh. Which figure is correct? 18.45 lakh houses were sanctioned during our tenure. The Chhattisgarh government should disclose how many houses they have sanctioned and how many of those have actually been constructed.”

BJP Holds Organisational Meetings in Punjab
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is also set to organise a series of organisational meetings, with the party’s national general secretary (organisation) BL Santhosh assigned to chair meetings during his two-day visit. Punjab BJP co-in-charge Narinder Singh Raina on Monday said that Santhosh was visiting Punjab for only two days. “Our national general secretary, Santosh ji, has a two-day program in Punjab, and there are various organisational meetings scheduled,” Raina told ANI.
This comes amid speculation over a possible alliance between the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the BJP. (ANI)
