Pant Becomes India’s Top WTC Run-Scorer

Indian wicketkeeper/batter Rishabh Pant continued his remarkable ascent through India’s Test record books on Monday, surpassing captain Shubman Gill to become the country’s highest run-scorer in ICC World Test Championship history. Pant achieved this feat during India’s 2nd Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo. Pant made 63 runs before he was dismissed by Keshara Nuwantha on the first ball of the second session. Pant now has 2,948 runs from 42 Tests in the World Test Championship, moving past Gill’s 2,917 from the same number of matches. Former Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is third among Indian batters with 2,716 runs from 40 Tests, followed by veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja (2,675 from 50) and Virat Kohli (2,617 from 46). Among India’s current players, Yashasvi Jaiswal is next on the list with 2,588 runs from 30 Tests.

Surpasses MS Dhoni’s Away Record

Pant’s latest feat comes on the back of another significant milestone earlier in the innings. The wicketkeeper-batter also surpassed legendary MS Dhoni to become India’s highest run-scorer as a designated wicketkeeper in away or neutral Tests. Pant crossed the 2,500-run mark in the category, edging past Dhoni’s tally of 2,496. He has reached the milestone at an impressive average of nearly 42, compared with Dhoni’s 32.84.
