Why Do Pillows Turn Yellow Over Time? Easy DIY Cleaning Hacks to Make Them Look New

1. Baking Soda + Vinegar Trick: First, mix equal parts of baking soda and water to make a paste. Apply this paste on the yellow stains and leave it for 30 minutes. After that, sprinkle a little white vinegar on it and wash it in the washing machine. The stains will vanish! (Note: If you have a memory foam or latex pillow, don’t wash it. Just wipe it gently with a damp cloth and let it air dry in the sun).

2. Lemon Juice + Sunlight (A Natural Bleach): Mix one part lemon juice with two parts warm water (or white vinegar) in a spray bottle. Spray this mixture on the pillow and leave it in direct sunlight for a few hours. The sun’s UV rays act as a natural bleach, completely removing stains and odours.

Tips to Prevent Yellowing: Always use a waterproof pillow protector under your regular pillow cover. This stops sweat and oils from seeping in. Also, make it a habit to wash your pillow covers once a week and the inner pillows every 3 to 6 months. For hygiene, it’s best to replace your old pillows with new ones every 2 years.
