Delhi schools, colleges get bomb threats; No explosives found in intensive search by police

New Delhi: Adding to the spate of hoax bomb threats targeting institutions across the country, two educational institutions — St. Stephen’s College (North Campus) and St. Thomas School (Dwarka) — received bomb threats via email on Tuesday morning (July 15). Panic broke out after the threats, even as authorities ordered immediate evacuations of the premises and conducted full-scale security operations. As of now, no suspicious object has been located.

Threat email to St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University

According to Delhi Police, St. Stephen’s College received an email at 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday that claimed that a bomb had been planted in the college library. Teams from the Maurice Nagar Police Station, Cyber Crime Unit, bomb detection and disposal squad and dog squad were promptly dispatched to the campus. The area was cordoned off, and a detailed sweep of the premises was undertaken.

St. Thomas School in Dwarka closed as a precaution

Meanwhile, St. Thomas School in Dwarka reported receiving a similar bomb threat via email. The school was swiftly evacuated, and the bomb squad and local police teams began combing the premises. No explosives have been found so far, and the school has remained closed as a precautionary measure.

Prior incidents in Delhi schools

These fresh threats come a day after similar emails were sent to the Navy Children School in Chanakyapuri and the CRPF Public School in Dwarka. In both instances, police teams conducted extensive checks and declared the premises safe.

Investigations are going on full-swing

A case has been registered, and cybercrime specialists are working to trace the origin of the emails. While no explosives have been recovered, authorities are not taking any chances and have stepped up surveillance.

Police have confirmed that no other colleges in the city have received threats as of now. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether these incidents are connected and whether they are part of a coordinated hoax.

The Delhi Police has urged the public to remain calm but vigilant, and has assured that any individual found responsible will face strict legal action.
