Petrol, Diesel Prices On Aug 24: Fuel Rates Stay Steady as Crude Oil Falls; Check City-Wise Prices

Despite a decline in international crude oil prices, petrol and diesel rates across major Indian cities remained unchanged. State-owned Oil Marketing Companies have not implemented a major nationwide price revision since May 25, maintaining stable retail prices for consumers.

Fuel prices remained largely unchanged across major Indian cities on Monday despite a decline in international crude oil prices. Consumers in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and other cities continued to pay the same retail rates as the previous session. According to the latest data, petrol and diesel prices have remained broadly steady even as global oil markets respond to geopolitical developments and changing supply expectations.

Petrol & Diesel Prices Today (August 24, 2026)

City Petrol (Rs /litre) Diesel (Rs /litre)

New Delhi Rs 102.12 Rs 95.20

Mumbai Rs 111.21 Rs 97.83

Gurugram Rs 102.97 Rs 95.64

The stability in domestic fuel prices comes despite softer crude oil prices globally. Brent crude fell around 1% on Monday to about $93.43 a barrel, while US crude declined 1.1% to approximately $86.14 a barrel, according to Reuters data cited by LiveMint. The movement came as markets awaited details of proposed US sanctions on Iran and assessed their potential impact on energy supplies from West Asia.

India follows a dynamic fuel-pricing mechanism under which petrol and diesel prices are revised daily at 6 am. However, state-owned Oil Marketing Companies have not made a major nationwide price revision since May 25, leaving retail rates largely stable in recent weeks.

The global oil market remains sensitive to developments around Iran, the Strait of Hormuz and the broader West Asia conflict. Last week, both Brent and US crude posted their second consecutive weekly gains, rising more than 5%, even though prices eased at the start of the new week.

For Indian consumers, the key takeaway on August 24 is that falling crude oil prices have not yet translated into lower petrol and diesel prices at the pump. Motorists should check their city’s latest rate before refuelling, as local taxes and pricing structures can result in significant differences between states and cities.
