A KBC contestant reportedly rejected a ₹1.5 lakh monthly job to focus on his UPSC dream and become a government officer. He said he wanted to make his father, a former driver for government officers, proud, leaving Amitabh Bachchan emotional.
For many young people, a job offering a salary of ₹1.5 lakh a month would be difficult to turn down, especially for someone from a financially struggling family. Yet, a young contestant on Kaun Banega Crorepati reportedly did exactly that. Despite the opportunity to earn a substantial monthly income and improve his family’s financial situation, he chose to reject the offer and focus entirely on his dream of clearing the UPSC examination. His reason left host Amitabh Bachchan visibly moved and touched the hearts of those watching.
Why He Rejected A ₹1.5 Lakh Job
The young man revealed that he turned down the ₹1.5 lakh monthly job because he wanted to prepare for the UPSC examination and become a government officer.
For him, the decision was not about money. His larger goal was to make his father proud and change the way his family was viewed in their village.
Although clearing the UPSC examination does not necessarily guarantee a salary higher than ₹1.5 lakh a month, the young contestant believed that becoming a government officer would give his father the respect he deserved.
My Father Has Saluted Enough
Explaining his decision, the contestant said that government officers are highly respected in his village. His father had worked as a driver for several government officers and would regularly salute them, open their car doors and stand respectfully before them.
He said: “In my village, government officers get a lot of respect. My father has worked as a driver for many government officers. Every day, his job was to salute them, open their car doors and stand with his head bowed. I felt that those days should end.”
He further explained that his biggest ambition was to become a government officer so that his father could hold his head high.
“My mission is to become a government officer so my father can hold his head high. I want the same people to salute my father, the driver. That’s why I didn’t take the job. Passing the UPSC exam is my only goal.”
Amitabh Bachchan Gets Emotional
The contestant’s determination left Kaun Banega Crorepati host Amitabh Bachchan visibly moved.
His father was also present in the audience and reportedly became emotional while listening to his son’s words.
The young man’s decision to prioritise his UPSC dream over a ₹1.5 lakh monthly salary resonated with viewers, particularly because his motivation was not personal wealth but his desire to give his father dignity and recognition.
His story serves as a reminder that success can mean different things to different people. For him, achieving his UPSC dream and making his father proud mattered more than accepting a lucrative job offer.
