DKS is an eight-time MLA from Kanakapura seat. He was born in 1962 in a farmer family in Doddalahalli village near Kanakapura. His father’s name is Kempegowda and mother’s name is Gouramma.
Shivakumar reached Karnataka Assembly for the first time in 1989 by winning from Sathanur. In his political career, he held several important positions, including Minister of Home Guards and Prisons (1991–92), Urban Development (1999–2004), Energy (2013–18), and Water Resources and Medical Education (2018–19). In 2020, he was made the President of KPCC and in May 2023, he took oath as Deputy Chief Minister along with Siddaramaiah.
