TG SAFE raids Bhadrachalam medical shop, seizes illegal abortion kits

Telangana’s drug authority, TG SAFE, raided a medical firm in Bhadrachalam, seizing 52 unauthorized abortion kits worth Rs. 23,296. The kits were illegally stocked without purchase bills. An investigation is underway against the offenders.

Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) conducted a sudden raid on a medical shop in Bhadrachalam and seized dozens of unauthorized termination kits which were illegally stocked for sale without valid purchase bills.

Details of the Raid and Seizure

According to a press release from the Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) – Drugs Wing, a raid was conducted on 22nd August, 2026, on a wholesale medical firm located at GCC Road, Bhadrachalam.

During the raid, officials detected the illegal stocking of 52 abortion kits, namely “a-Kare Kit” (MTP Kit/Abortifacient Drugs), with manufacturing date, Jun-2026, and expiry date, May-2028, labelled as manufactured by: Synokem Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Haridwar, Uttarakhand; and marketed by: DKT India, Santacruz, Mumbai, TG SAFE official stated.

The press release from the Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs noted that the said abortion kits were found stocked for sale without valid purchase bills, in violation of the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, and the Rules made thereunder governing the stocking and sale of medicines. The total worth of the seized drugs is Rs. 23,296/-.

Understanding MTP Kits

MTP Kit (Medical Termination of Pregnancy Kit) is a combination of medicines containing Mifepristone and Misoprostol, used for the medical termination of early pregnancy under prescribed conditions and strict medical supervision, TG SAFE press release stated.

Dangers of Unsupervised Use

The press release further noted that unsupervised or improper use of MTP Kits (Abortion Kits) can lead to serious health complications, including excessive bleeding, incomplete abortion, infection, and may pose a risk to the life of the woman.

Investigation and Legal Action

G Aswani, Drugs Inspector, Bhadradri-Kothagudem, carried out the raid under the supervision of M Aravind Kumar, Assistant Director, Khammam. Officers lifted the samples for analysis, the press release stated.

Further investigation will be carried out, and action will be taken as per the law against all the offenders. Illegal purchase and sale of MTP Kits (Abortion Kits) by medical shops is punishable under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, with imprisonment for up to two years. (ANI)
