Heavy Rain Lashes Delhi, Noida; IMD Issues Storm Alerts Across 25 States | Forecast For UP, MP, Rajasthan

Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow alerts for heavy rains in several states of North and Central India, including Delhi-NCR.

Dark clouds have been hovering over Delhi and its surrounding areas like Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad since morning, with heavy rain reported in some pockets. The weather conditions are expected to bring a significant drop in temperatures and providing significant relief from the humid heat.

Rain Alert In 25 States Today

The IMD has issued a warning for heavy rain and storm in 25 states including Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Bihar, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Himachal, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya, Sikkim and Nagaland.

In the plains, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are experiencing the most severe impacts. Most districts in these two states have been warned of heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, which could lead to waterlogging and flooding in low-lying areas.

The administration has issued a warning to people to avoid open spaces during inclement weather due to the risk of lightning strikes. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast for parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, as well as Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana.

On the other hand, this monsoon rain has significantly worsened the difficulties in the hilly states. In many areas of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, continuous rainfall has created a serious risk of landslides and mountain subsidence.

Due to falling rocks on national highways and connecting roads, traffic has come to a complete halt at many places, leaving hundreds of tourists and local people stranded on the way.

The Meteorological Department and Disaster Management Department have directed people living on the banks of rivers and streams in the hilly areas to move to safer places, and have also appealed to the general public to avoid travelling to the mountains unless absolutely necessary.
