Mumbai’s FDA has suspended the food license of The Bombay Presidency Radio Club in Colaba after an inspection revealed severe hygiene issues, including fly infestations, a dead cockroach, and risks of physical and chemical contamination.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Greater Mumbai, has suspended the food business license of The Bombay Presidency Radio Club Limited, Colaba, Mumbai, with immediate effect after an inspection revealed severe violations of food safety and hygiene standards.
According to the release, the action was taken under the guidance of Tukaram Mundhe (IAS), Commissioner of Food Safety, Maharashtra State, following an inspection conducted on August 19, 2026, during which multiple non-compliances were found under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and Rules & Regulations, 2011 (Schedule 4).
Inspection Reveals Multiple Hygiene and Safety Failures
The FDA found active fly infestation in kitchen areas, the presence of a dead cockroach, and exposed cockroach traps near utensil-washing sections, raising concerns over biological hazards and pest control measures.
The inspection also highlighted risks of physical and chemical contamination, including flaking ceiling plaster falling directly over food preparation areas and storage of washing powder and chemicals alongside food items, as per the release.
Several hygiene-related violations were also reported, including utensils and food items being kept directly on the floor, unhygienic non-vegetarian refrigerators, improper thawing practices, and storage of personal belongings such as sweaty helmets and clothing along with food items.
The FDA further noted systemic failures at the premises, including unsealed kitchen doors, waste bins placed near cooking stoves, marks indicating possible spitting inside the premises, and an overall non-compliance rate of 47 per cent.
License Suspended with Immediate Effect
According to the release, exercising powers under Section 32(3) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, read with Regulation 2.1.8(4), the Food and Drug Administration, Zone-01, issued an order suspending the license of the establishment in the interest of public health.
The establishment has been directed to immediately stop all food purchase, sale, and distribution activities during the suspension period. The FDA warned that any violation of the order would invite strict legal action under the provisions of the FSS Act. (ANI)
