A brand-new auditorium in Malappuram was completely destroyed in a fire, just two days before its grand opening. A short circuit is the likely cause. The first wedding was scheduled for this Sunday, and the owners estimate a loss of about ₹1 crore.

Malappuram: A massive fire destroyed a new auditorium in Edakkara, just two days before it was set to open. Around 200 workers who were giving the final touches to the building had a narrow escape.

The auditorium belongs to Kinattingal John Mathew, who is from Vallappuzha in Nilambur. The building is located near the Chungathara Mampoyil CNG Road, where the final phase of work was underway.

The fire broke out around 4:45 PM on Thursday. Initial reports suggest a short circuit caused the blaze. The auditorium was supposed to host its very first wedding this Sunday. The estimated loss is a staggering ₹1 crore.

The workers were busy with different jobs when the fire started. They saw the flames spreading and immediately ran outside, which is how they all got to safety. The fire completely gutted the auditorium’s ceiling. The workers’ tools and equipment were also destroyed in the blaze.

Two fire engines from Nilambur rushed to the spot. A team led by Station Officer V. Baburaj and Assistant Station Officer K. Yousafali managed to put out the fire. Thankfully, no one was injured in the incident.
