‘No Shame Or Ego’: KL Rahul Reveals How India’s Open Dressing Room Is Helping Young Stars Shine

New Delhi: India’s emphatic 165-run victory over Sri Lanka in the first Test in Galle has highlighted not only the team’s growing depth but also the strong culture inside the Indian dressing room.

Senior batter KL Rahul revealed that there is no room for ego or hierarchy when it comes to learning and helping teammates.
Chasing 372 for victory, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 206 as left-arm spinner Manav Suthar delivered a sensational performance. Playing only his second Test, Suthar claimed a 10-wicket match haul and emerged as one of the biggest contributors to India’s convincing win.
Rahul, speaking after the match, said every player has a responsibility to support teammates regardless of experience or age. He explained that the Indian dressing room has traditionally remained an environment where players feel comfortable approaching one another for advice.
According to Rahul, even when he was relatively inexperienced, senior players never allowed their greater Test experience to create barriers. He said there was no hesitation among players to learn from someone with fewer matches or share knowledge with a more experienced teammate.
The senior batter also highlighted how the younger generation is bringing different perspectives into the team. Rahul revealed that he regularly discusses batting techniques with Yashasvi Jaiswal, particularly aspects such as sweeping and reverse sweeping.
He explained that players have different approaches and mindsets, making conversations between generations valuable for everyone. Rahul believes this exchange of ideas helps the team continue evolving rather than relying solely on seniority or experience.
He also praised Suthar for his disciplined bowling during the Test. Rahul pointed out that the spinner repeatedly hit the right areas while making subtle adjustments, forcing Sri Lankan batters to constantly think about finding scoring options.
According to Rahul, that pressure can shift the contest in favour of the bowler because once a batter begins searching for ways to counter a consistent bowler, mistakes become more likely.
India will now look to carry the momentum from their dominant Galle victory into the second and final Test of the series.
