MP Jal Jeevan Mission: What important instructions has Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav given to the officials regarding drinking water supply? How much work of Jal Jeevan Mission has been completed in Madhya Pradesh and by when is the target of providing tap water to every house? In the summer season, when water availability becomes the biggest challenge in many areas, the Madhya Pradesh government has made it clear that drinking water supply is one of its top priorities. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav instructed the officials in the review meeting of the Public Health Engineering Department (PHE) that no citizen of the state should face water shortage.

In the meeting held in Bhopal, the Chief Minister said that wherever there is a situation of water crisis, alternative arrangements should be immediately implemented and drinking water supply should be continuously monitored. He especially stressed on checking drying water sources and uninterrupted operation of tap-water schemes.

Jal Jeevan Mission will be completed before March 2028

In the meeting, Public Health Engineering Minister Sampantiya Uike informed that about 80 percent work of Jal Jeevan Mission has been completed in the state. The government aims to provide tap water to every household in the state before March 2028. He said that the work of Jal Jeevan Mission has been completely completed in 11 districts of the state including Ujjain division. The Chief Minister directed to honor such villages and Gram Panchayats which have successfully operated and maintained tap water schemes themselves.

Tap water reached more than 1.11 crore families

According to the data presented in the meeting, till now more than 1 crore 11 lakh families have been provided tap water facility in Madhya Pradesh. About 75 percent families of the state have come under the scope of this scheme. From December 2023 till now:

  • More than 16.50 lakh new domestic tap connections given
  • 15,238 new tube wells and hand pumps installed
  • 14,200 villages declared “Har Ghar Jal”

The government claims that continuous work is being done to strengthen the water supply system in both rural and urban areas.

State will not depend only on tube wells for water sources

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav suggested to the officials that the strategy of relying only on tube wells for water sources is not sufficient. He expressed the need to promote ponds, lakes and water conservation based structures. According to the Chief Minister, this will promote water conservation as well as improvement in groundwater level and water recharge. Besides this, permanent water sources can be prepared for tap water schemes.

Madhya Pradesh becomes the first state in the country to implement Borewell Act

In the meeting, Minister Sampantiya Uike told that Madhya Pradesh has implemented the Borewell Act to prevent accidents due to falling into open or unsafe borewells. The government claims that Madhya Pradesh has become the first state in the country to implement such a law. Its objective is to ensure the safety of children and common citizens.

Water monitoring will be done through digital technology

The government is also working on a digital monitoring system to make the water supply system more transparent and effective. According to Madhya Pradesh Jal Nigam:

  1. Complaints and suggestions are being resolved through Jaldarpan portal.
  2. There are preparations to install IoT sensors in single tap-water schemes.
  3. It is proposed to set up command and control centers at the state and district levels.
  4. 155 water testing laboratories have received NABL certification.

These steps are aimed at improving monitoring of both water quality and supply.

Water festival will be held in October 2026

The Chief Minister also stressed on making water conservation a mass movement. In this series, “Jal Utsav” will be organized at the state level in October 2026. In this program, people and institutions doing excellent work in the field of water conservation, better operation of tap water schemes and community participation will be honored.

Madhya Pradesh government is working rapidly towards completing the Jal Jeevan Mission before the scheduled time. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has made it clear that no negligence in drinking water supply will be accepted. The state is preparing to achieve the goal of providing safe and regular drinking water to every household in the coming years through tap-water schemes, digital monitoring and water conservation campaigns.
