Mumbai T20 League: The bad phase of T20 World Champion Indian team captain Suryakumar Yadav is showing no signs of ending. Suryakumar, who has been flopping in international cricket for the last two years, is now failing in the T20 league as well. After yearning for runs in IPL 2026, the start of Mumbai T20 League was also not good for Surya and here too he could not do any wonders with his batting. In his first match of the league, Suryakumar returned to the pavilion after scoring only 19 runs.
Suryakumar Yadav is playing for Triumphs Knights MNE in the new season of this T20 league of Mumbai Cricket Association. On Tuesday, June 2, the team played its first match in this league, where it faced North Mumbai Panthers. In this match, North Mumbai, captained by Ajinkya Rahane, batted first and scored a big score of 209 runs. In response, the Knights lost 2 wickets including captain Akhil Herwadkar for 20 runs.
At such a time, Suryakumar Yadav had a good opportunity to take charge of the team and gain momentum. He could have strengthened his claim by scoring some runs before the Ireland-England tour. But despite making a fast start, he could stay on the field only for 11 balls and returned to the pavilion after scoring only 19 runs, which included 4 fours. Rahul Sawant made him his victim and gave the third blow to the Knights.
This performance has made the path of Indian captain Suryakumar more difficult than before. Even though Team India won the T20 World Cup under the captaincy of Surya, his poor form has been a cause of trouble for the last two years. If it is believed that he might not be able to play well under the pressure of captaincy, then the performance of IPL 2026 proves this claim wrong as well. Surya, who generally always performs well in IPL, scored only 270 runs in 13 innings for Mumbai this season, in which there were only 2 half-centuries.
But apart from all this, Surya’s cheap dismissal in the Mumbai T20 match is a matter of greater concern. One reason for this is that he has a lot of experience in international and IPL cricket, whereas the bowler who dismissed him has not even played IPL till date. The second thing is that Rahul Sawant, who dismissed him, is a left-arm spinner, whereas Suryakumar Yadav has always been one of the best batsmen in the Indian team against spinners. In such a situation, if he is getting out against unknown spinners then it is not a good sign for him.
