Unni Mukundan Case: Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan, best known for his performance in Marco, is facing serious legal trouble following a complaint lodged by his former PR manager, Vipin Kumar.
The Kakkanad Judicial First Class Magistrate Court has now issued a summons for the actor to appear on 27th October 2025. The case stems from an alleged assault earlier this year, with police investigations reportedly gathering strong evidence against the actor. The charges include physical assault, verbal abuse, property damage, and issuing threats to life. Police have already filed a chargesheet, and the court will now determine the validity of the claims.
Meanwhile, the chargesheet has been filed under sections 115(2), 126(2), 296(B), 351(2), and 324(4) of the Indian Penal Code. These cover unlawful entry with the intent to cause harm, pre-planned assault, abuse, threats, and property damage. According to reports, Unni allegedly broke Vipin’s sunglasses during the incident. Earlier reports suggesting that there was no proper evidence have been dismissed. Police confirmed that the case is supported by around 10 minutes of CCTV footage, witness testimonies, circumstantial proof, and even mobile tower location data. Although the charges are bailable, Unni Mukundan is expected to apply for bail as part of routine legal procedure.
Unni Mukundan’s Response
On the other hand, Unni Mukundan has strongly denied the allegations. At a press conference in Kochi earlier this year, he insisted that he never assaulted Vipin. The actor admitted to throwing Vipin’s sunglasses during a heated argument but denied any physical violence. “This is not a case of assault. There was no physical violence,” he said. “I only wanted to confront Vipin because he was speaking negatively about me. Yes, I threw his sunglasses, but there was no physical contact.” Additionally, the Marco actor also alleged that Vipin had tried to blackmail him and had taken undue credit during the promotions of Marco. He further claimed that other industry figures had raised complaints against Vipin, including one female actor who reportedly approached the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC).
Vipin Kumar’s Allegations
Vipin Kumar, however, paints a different picture. He told the media that the actor called him to the parking area of his building, where the assault took place. According to the FIR, Unni punched him in the face, abused him verbally, broke his sunglasses, and threatened to kill him. “I worked with him for six years,” Vipin said. “He is frustrated because his films after Marco did not do well. Get Set Baby failed at the box office, and even his directorial project collapsed after Gokulam Movies pulled out. He took that anger out on me.” Vipin later filed complaints with both the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) and the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA).
Industry Reaction
Both FEFKA and AMMA took the matter seriously and reviewed the case. After discussions with both sides, the organisations concluded that Unni’s earlier statements were not factually correct. At a joint press conference, FEFKA General Secretary B Unnikrishnan and AMMA office-bearers clarified that they would not interfere in the police investigation. Instead, they stressed that the matter should be resolved through proper legal channels. As the hearing date approaches, the case continues to draw public attention.
