New Delhi: England batter Harry Brook was slammed for his reckless dismissal during England’s second innings on Day 4 of the Lord’s Test against India. Brook, who is known for his attacking style, was dismissed by Indian pacer Akash Deep, trying to play an audacious slog sweep after hitting two fours and a six against the pacer in his previous over.
Brook arrived in the middle at no.5 after England lost wickets in quick succession at the top to get reduced to 50/3 inside 15 overs. Despite England being in a precarious position, Brook decided to go after Akash Deep in the 20th over. He smashed two consecutive fours and a six to get 15 runs off his over and launch a counter-attack.
However, the Indian pacer had the last laugh after cleaning up Brook in his next over. Brook was bowled after he went for a sweep and the ball sneaked behind his legs before crashing onto his stumps. The England batter was dismissed cheaply on 23 off 19 balls as the hosts lost their 4th wicket at the stroke of Lunch on Day 4.
Sangakkara, who was on commentary duties for Sky Sports, slammed Brook while reacting to his reckless dismissal. The Sri Lanka legend said Brook’s shot was not ‘Bazball’ or ‘overconfidence’, but plain arrogance. The Sri Lanka legend criticised Brook’s shot selection and said he made a huge mistake by throwing away his wicket at a crucial juncture in the game.
“Brook has scooped, and they’ve given him a gap, so flick it. I think it’s a bit of arrogance, not even overconfidence, it’s not even Bazball, it’s just arrogance. You’re counter-attacking and that is a big, big mistake,” said Sangakkara on air.
