The combination of the festive season and the government’s new GST 2.0 tax reform has ignited car sales across India, with automakers reporting record breaking enquiries, bookings and deliveries.
From Maruti Suzuki to Hyundai and Tata Motors, demand for cars is now touching new highs, which shows how tax savings and festive excitement are boosting customer confidence.
Maruti Suzuki
Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest carmaker, says it has never seen such demand in decades and supporting this Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki, said, “The response from customers has been phenomenal-something we haven’t seen in the last 35 years. On the very first day, we recorded 80,000 enquiries, and have already delivered over 25,000 cars, with deliveries expected to touch 30,000 shortly.”
- Since September 18, when Maruti announced additional discounts over and above GST benefits, the brand has received 75,000 bookings.
- Nearly 15,000 bookings per day are flowing in and are about 50% higher than usual.
- Small cars like Alto, WagonR, and Swift are driving this surge, with demand growing by nearly 50%.
- Some variants are in such high demand that stock may run out, with dealers working late nights to hand over the cars to customers.
Tata Motors
Tata Motors, which is known for popular models like Nexon, Punch, and Harrier, also recorded strong festive sales momentum.
- On Day 1 of Navratri, Tata delivered 10,000 cars across India.
- The company also received more than 25,000 enquiries in a single day.
- Executives say this festive season is shaping up to be one of the strongest in years till date.
Hyundai
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) also reported record numbers and calling it their best single-day performance in the last five years.
Tarun Garg, Whole-Time Director and COO, HMIL, emphasised, “The auspicious start of Navratri, amplified by the momentum from GST 2.0 reforms, has infused strong positivity into the market. On Day 1 alone, Hyundai recorded around 11,000 dealer billings, which is our highest single-day performance in the last five years.”
Hyundai highlighted that it was among the first companies to fully pass on GST 2.0 benefits to the customers, which further boosted festive spirit.
