Choti Diwali 2025 Date: The festival of Deepawali is the biggest festival lasting for five days. Starting from Dhanteras to Bhai Dooj, this festival brings a lot of happiness and prosperity. The second day in these five days is celebrated as Narak Chaturdashi or Chhoti Diwali. Worshiping Yama Dev and Lord Krishna has special significance on this day.
When is short Diwali 2025?
According to the Panchang, Chaturdashi Tithi will begin on October 19 at 1 pm 51 minutes and it will conclude at 3:44 pm on October 20, the next day. Therefore, according to Udaya Tithi, the festival of Chhoti Diwali (Narak Chaturdashi) will be celebrated on 19 October itself. The next day i.e. on 20 October Badi Diwali Will be celebrated
Chhoti Diwali Puja Vidhi
Get up early in the morning on the day of Narak Chaturdashi. Bathing before sunrise on this day is considered very auspicious. After bathing, wearing clean clothes and worship Yama Dev.
Yama lamp: On this day, a four Mukhi lamp is lit for Yama Dev at the main gate of the house in the evening. It is called ‘Yama Deepak’. This lamp can be of flour or soil. It is kept outside the house facing south direction.
Deep Donation: Light a lamp on all corners of the house and outside at the evening on Narak Chaturdashi. This brings positive energy to the house.
Rangoli: Make Rangoli outside the house. This reflects the happiness of the festival and is considered auspicious to welcome mother Lakshmi.
Importance of Narak Chaturdashi
This festival is a symbol of Lord Krishna’s victory over Narakasura. According to mythology, 16,100 princesses were taken captive by a demon named Narakasura. Lord Krishna killed him and freed all those princesses. Narak Chaturdashi is celebrated in the joy of this victory. There is also a law of worship of Yama Dev on this day. It is believed that on this day, worshiping Yama Dev and lighting a lamp outside the house ends the fear of premature death and the person gets freedom from hell.
