Twisha’s husband Samarth was assaulted in the High Court

  • This matter came to light when the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) presented Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh in the court after the completion of five-day custody remand in the case of death of 33-year-old Twisha Sharma. Giribala claimed that lawyer Anurag Srivastava had attacked Samarth during the hearing in Jabalpur. Responding to this allegation, Srivastava rejected it outright and said that the veracity of this claim can be verified from the CCTV footage installed in the court premises.
  • He also challenged Samarth Singh and asked him to tell where he was allegedly hiding in the Jabalpur Court Complex.

Former judge said – now our lives are in danger

  • During the hearing, Giribala also objected to the “media trial” taking place over the case. He told the court, “This media trial must stop. Wherever we go, the media follows us; this must be stopped. Our lives are in danger.”
  • Apart from this, he also raised questions on the recent crime scene recreation conducted by the CBI and alleged irregularities in the process. Giribala asked why he was dropped three houses away instead of being dropped directly at his home and also objected to the footage of the entire process being circulated in the media.

What does CBI want?

  • CBI told the court that at present it is seeking judicial remand for the accused, but it reserves the right to seek further police remand if necessary during the investigation.
  • “At this stage, we are requesting judicial remand (JR); however, if the need arises, we will seek police remand (PR),” the agency told the court.
  • This case is related to the death of Twisha Sharma, a resident of Noida, who died in Bhopal on May 12. Her family has alleged that her husband and in-laws used to harass and mentally harass her for dowry. CBI is investigating this matter. (ANI)
