Noida: The sudden death of 15-year-old Tanishka at the Presidium School in Noida’s Sector 31 has sparked an official investigation, as her family raises serious concerns about potential lapses in surveillance and delayed medical attention. Tanishka’s mother filed a police complaint on September 8, requesting a thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding her daughter’s death.
However, officers confirmed that a formal FIR is yet to be registered. A post-mortem conducted by a district medical panel found no external injuries, leaving the cause of death undetermined. Viscera samples have been preserved for further forensic analysis, police said, Times of India reported.
What happened with Tanishka?
Tanishka, who had been raised by her mother Tripta following the death of her father in 2019, collapsed at the school a day before Teachers’ Day celebrations. Tripta described her daughter as “completely healthy and a happy child” and recalled that she had been “very happy and excited” about the event. She added that Tanishka could even swim in deep waters, highlighting the girl’s robust health.
Speaking to Times of India, Tripta said the circumstances of her daughter’s death were deeply troubling. “What is shocking is that no one saw her when she collapsed. Her friends said they saw her lying unconscious on the second floor. The school has refused to share any CCTV footage with me,” she said.
Delay in receiving proper medical attention: Family members
Family members also alleged that the school delayed proper medical attention by first taking Tanishka to the campus medical room rather than rushing her to a hospital. Confusion over the incident further escalated after staff reportedly gave conflicting accounts, initially claiming she fainted while having lunch, then later stating she collapsed on the stairs. “These conflicting accounts raise doubts and suggest an attempt to cover up negligence,” her uncle Vaibhav Sharma told TOI.
A spokesperson for Presidium School said, according to Times of India, “Police are investigating the matter, and we are cooperating with police and the family. All CCTV footage has been submitted to cops.”
Noida’s district inspector of schools, Rajesh Kumar Singh, confirmed that there was a gap in surveillance coverage. “The spot where the girl collapsed, near the staircase, was not covered by any CCTV camera. But police have taken the CCTV DVR system. No other lapses have been found till now,” the TOI reported.
