Rishabh Pant ruled out of India’s Test series against West Indies, Nitish Reddy poised for return – Report

New Delhi: Rishabh Pant is likely to miss India’s upcoming two-match Test series against West Indies at home. After pulling off a spirited 2-2 draw in their Test series against England earlier this year, India will be looking to return to winning ways against West Indies at home. The two-match rubber will mark Shubman Gill’s first series as India’s Test captain.

As per a report in ESPNCricinfo, Pant is set to be ruled out of the West Indies Test series as he is yet to recover from his foot injury that he suffered during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in England. Pant sustained an ankle injury on his left foot and is currently undergoing rehab at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

The wicket-keeper batter has not received medical clearance from the BCCI medical team to resume batting and keeping duties. In his absence, Dhruv Jurel is likely to continue as India’s first-choice wicket-keeper batter against West Indies. Jurel was part of India’s Test squad in England and featured in the last two Tests against the hosts.

The Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel will meet in Mumbai on Thursday, September 24, to pick India’s squad for the West Indies series. It is likely to be a 15-man squad as there are only two matches. The first Test will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad from October 02 to 06. The second Test will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi from October 10.
