New Delhi: Amid the buildup for the Bihar assembly polls, scheduled later this year, a report about the Nitish Kumar government providing 100 units of free electricity every month is being widely shared on social media.
The viral report has been found to be false and misleading.
The Bihar government’s Finance Department on Sunday issued a clarification that it has not given approval to any proposal for providing 100 units of free electricity every month.
“The Finance Department clarifies that it has not given approval to any proposal of providing 100 units of free electricity every month. The news being circulated in this regard is misleading. Please share only fact-based information,” it said.
The press release further stated that no decision has been taken by the Finance Department on this matter, and such reports are not based on facts. The Finance Department requested that news outlets and the public refrain from spreading unverified information.
Assembly elections with 243 seats in focus
Bihar is governed by the NDA government, with Nitish Kumar as Chief Minister. The ruling alliance includes BJP, JD(U), HAM, and LJP (Ram Vilas faction), among others. The opposition includes RJD, Congress, and CPI(ML), with Tejashwi Yadav serving as the Leader of the Opposition.
With 243 assembly seats, the upcoming elections are crucial, and both the ruling and opposition camps are actively trying to sway public opinion.
