August 13: Boxer Sakshi Chaudhary, who clinched a gold medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, has shifted her focus to the upcoming Asian Games.
Following her impressive performance in Glasgow, the Indian boxer is ready to challenge for another major international title.
Sakshi showcased remarkable skill in the women’s 51 kg boxing category at the Commonwealth Games, defeating England’s Ruby White 5-0 in the final. Throughout the tournament, she remained undefeated, maintaining a perfect record with unanimous decisions from the pre-quarterfinals to the finals.
Her gold medal-winning performance in Glasgow featured swift movements, disciplined defense, precise combinations, and strategic maneuvers. From the opening bell in the final against White, Sakshi controlled the match, securing a unanimous victory. The judges scored the bout 30-27, 29-28, 30-27, 30-26, and 30-27.
The success at the Commonwealth Games has significantly boosted Sakshi’s confidence ahead of the Asian Games. She stated, “Winning the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games feels like a dream come true. Now, my entire focus is on the Asian Games. These are the platforms I have always aimed to compete on, and I want to perform to the best of my abilities.”
Sakshi emphasized that representing India is her greatest source of inspiration, motivating her to improve with each match. She remarked, “I play for my country. This constant thought fills me with enthusiasm and gives me the strength and courage to perform better than in my last match.”
She also mentioned that she would begin her preparations for the Asian Games immediately, leveraging the lessons learned from her Commonwealth experience to enhance her performance. “I will start my training for the Asian Games now. I have learned a lot from my Commonwealth matches, and I will always remember this experience,” she added.
