Dulquer Salmaan calls Armaan Malik’s ‘Mazhavillaye’ contribution “truly special”

Actor Dulquer Salmaan has praised singer Armaan Malik for bringing what he described as “so much soul” and his own artistic spirit to Mazhavillaye, marking Malik’s Malayalam playback debut.

The romantic track is the first single from Dulquer’s upcoming film I’m Game and has been receiving a positive response from listeners. Composed by Jakes Bejoy, the song features Malik’s vocals alongside Dulquer and Kayadu Lohar’s romantic pairing on screen.

Dulquer, who said he has been a longtime admirer of Malik’s work, took to X to express his appreciation for the singer’s contribution.

“It’s such a privilege to have you bring so much soul and your own spirit to this track brother. Been your fan forever so this is truly special!” Dulquer wrote, adding, “Lots of love always.”

Malik had earlier spoken about the experience of recording the song and explained that his approach was centred on the character, situation and emotional requirements of the story rather than simply the actor appearing on screen.

“While singing, I think about the character, the situation and what the story needs emotionally from an overall perspective,” he said.

At the same time, the singer acknowledged that Dulquer’s screen presence worked naturally with the melody. Malik said he had admired the actor for a long time and found it special to finally lend his voice to one of his films.

Mazhavillaye also marked a new linguistic challenge for Malik. Although he has previously sung in Telugu, Tamil and Kannada, he approached Malayalam with particular attention to its pronunciation and expressions.
